My latest commission

I've another furry painting to do, this time a commission. A handsome brown tabby cat. This is a A4, and I'm going to be using gouache and pastel pencils for it.

Deer relaxing in Richmond Park, finished for now.....

Right I think I'm done for now, unless anyone has any good ideas! I've got a commission to crack on with a very beautiful brown tabby cat. It's going to be A4 gouache with pastel pencil.

I had a go at the the two deer in the background I think they are better. So far feed-back from my forum, the greens need tweeking, the deer need a warmer light and some more shadows. I agree with all this, I think it needs warming up, and a better balance overall.

Deer relaxing in Richmond Park

I've reached a point now where I need to ponder. The two deer in the back still aren't quite working for me. As usual I'm going to put this on my forum to get some feed back, I love a critique. So if you have any comments please let me know, I have very thick skin!

Still not happy!

I've realised that the deer in the background are wrong. When I took the first photo I realised they looked mad, then spotted the proportions were out. The second photo shows my rough corrections. It's late so I'll neaten it up tomorrow with fresh eyes!
The deer on the right was wrong, the snout was too long, head too large and ears therefore too high up. The body on the same deer needed less grass to give it more form, including a longer neck. The top of the body has come down so that the deer on the left has a longer neck too. Tomorrow I will sort this out, got a few hours so hope to be nearly done tomorrow.

Deer relaxing wip day 9

I've spent some time today doing the fur on my new stag's body and the rest of the deer. I've also started the deer at the back. I've treated myself to a couple of new brushes including a fan shaped one, so I think I'm going to have a play with that tomorrow to see what textures I can get with it. I also got a few more pastel pencils, including a nice reddish brown colour which I think should warm my deer up nicely.
